ABALONE

Overview: Alexandrite is used as a gemstone. Faceted Alexandrite gemstones with good color change are considered very valuable, even when visible inclusions are present. Alexandrite is the variety of chrysoberyl that displays a change-of-color from green to red. A distinct color change is the primary qualification for a chrysoberyl to be considered Alexandrite. The strength of the color change is related to the difference in the areas of transmission, relative to the absorption in the yellow. The greater the difference, the stronger the color change.

Overview: Almandite is the most common of the garnets and is usually the garnet found in garnet schists. Although only a small amount of this mineral is fit for gem use, it is nevertheless a popular gem. It is the most widely used Garnet in the gem trade.
