Remaining Patient

It is not always necessary to fly out the gate. Back in 1984, Steve Young was projected to be the number one pick in the National Football League (NFL) entry draft. Young was ambitious and knew that he would never start in his first year. Instead of holding the clipboard on the sideline, he bolted to the United States Football League (USFL), signing with the LA Express. LA was closer to his home in Provo, Utah and he knew that he would have a chance to start. In 1985, the USFL folded and Young returned to the NFL team that had drafted him in 1984, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After 2 seasons and 19 games, the San Francisco 49ers acquired the promising quarterback.

Stepping out of a Father's Shadow

Jacques Villeneuve's father, Gilles was the lead driver for Ferrari. Racing in a Formula 1 car is tough, but the stakes are much higher when you have the keys to a Scuderia. His first victory came in 1978, in Montreal, Canada. Fitting since Villeneuve was Canadian. In 1982, at the Grand Prix of Belgium, Gilles died during the try-outs.

Teamplay

While you may wish that your final grade be a reflection of your understanding and productivity solely, fact of the matter is that your work will only represent on average, half of your final grade. Your final grade, the one on which your job opportunities will rely on (admittedly unfairly) will be equally determined by how well you interact, manage and work in a group setting. Ah yes, the group setting.

The Game: Avoiding Enemies

At the risk of using trite analogies, business school is a Game. Whether you wish to call it a rat race or snakes and ladders, you will encounter more challenges and injustice than you would like to. But as you can imagine, life is unfair so get used to it.

Winning Gameplan

The venerable ''Conductor of Madness'' Ozzy Osbourne once boasted "it's not how you play the game, it's if you win or lose." Ozzy may not have been the clearest thinking fellow but those words should stick with you if popular convention states the opposite.
