Outside mount shades are mounted outside the window opening and attach either to a wood trim/frame around the window or to a wall. Outside mounts are ideal for windows with little or no window
depth. There is a minimum amount of flat space required for outside mount blinds (see chart).

Inside mount refers to blinds that are mounted inside the opening of a window that is recessed from a wall. This is the most
common way to cover windows today and provides a nice, clean look. There is a minimum windowsill depth for blinds
mounted inside and there is also minimum windowsill depth for the blind to fit flush with the wall (see chart below).

On inside mounted Shangri-La shades the fabric will be 1 1/8" narrower (5/8” on the lift cord side and
1/2” on the opposite side) than the headrail (see picture). This allows space for the shade to operate and is true on all
Silhouette-type soft horizontal shades. Therefore on all inside mounts you will have a possible light gap on the sides unless
there is a window frame, trim, or drapery covering this space.

Plantation shutters are generally comprised of a shutter panel attached (hinged) to a frame. The panel itself consists of
louvers, which rotate open and closed; stiles running vertically on the sides; and rails running horizontally on the top and
bottom. Panels over 60" will include a divider rail, which adds strength and support to your shutter panels, and allows you to
open the top louvers while keeping the bottom ones closed.

Windows with cranks (casement windows) are usually covered with outside mounted treatments. You may consider a crank
replacement device. These are available online and some look like wing-nuts while others are simply a crank that folds flat.
In addition many cranks can usually be removed or re-positioned to point upwards, which minimizes its projection and
obstruction. If you have a non-removable crank that protrudes outside the window opening you will hang the blinds in front
of the crank. Consider adding an inch or so to your height to help mitigate the bulge the product will make as it hangs in
front of the crank. Spacers can also be used to bring the product a little further away from the wall opening.

ou must use a steel measuring tape for accuracy. If you are replacing existing blinds your measurements must be from measuring the window opening NOT the existing blinds. The
ordered height is the length of the finished product, including vanes and headrail.
