Adios?

Nobody seems to like the state of immigration laws these days. More specifically, no one can decide what to do about illegal Mexican Immigrants. The President is currently pushing an immigration reform package that by his own admission contains some rules and regulations that he disagrees with. The Hispanic community in every major city is protesting like you’d expect if they’d all been declared degenerate rapists, and it doesn’t seem like anyone in Congress actually wants to vote for it anyway. So the big question is: What will be done to solve the problem? The answer: Probably nothing that will actually have an impact in any noticeable way.

The question that everyone should be asking is: What is the real problem? What is its root cause? And how do we fix it? If you start asking questions like these, you might be surprised at the answers. Even if the only person you ask these questions of is yourself, you may come up with some unexpected answers. One of the things you’re likely to discover is that illegal aliens from Mexico are not really a problem themselves. There have been thousands of illegal Mexican immigrants in this country for decades. They are here for work. It’s not like these are illegal immigrants from Iraq or other Middle Eastern countries. It’s not like they’re illegal immigrants from France or Canada, here to thumb their noses at us and tell us how much better things are in their country. These are Mexican immigrants who snuck into the U.S. to earn a better living. What’s the real harm in that?

People will tell you “they’re taking our jobs!” but that’s not really true. If employers won’t hire you over a non-English speaking illegal immigrant, then you probably don’t deserve a job in the first place. Just because you were born doesn’t mean that you deserve anything. That’s what capitalism is all about, you have to work at it to get somewhere in your life. A former teacher of mine once said, in reference to why some people don’t get job offers after graduation, “Some people can’t even work for their own Mothers.” Mexican immigrants come here because they want to work and they are willing to work hard. That’s why they get hired.

So if the immigrants themselves are not the problem, what is? The answer to that question and so many others these days is money. Aside from the money spent to find, catch, and return illegal immigrants, the U.S. and local governments spend a fortune in health, education, and community service for illegal immigrants. The solution is so simple and so politically incorrect that no politician will ever think to propose it: Stop. Stop the government spending on illegal immigrants. No welfare, no free healthcare, no assistance whatsoever from any level of government to anyone who cannot provide proof that they are a U.S. citizen. If they want to sneak into the country to work that’s fine, but don’t let them have any of the benefits of a U.S. citizen unless they are one. That may not stop or even slow down the influx of illegal immigrants into this country, but they weren’t really the problem anyway.
