It's Your Choice

I'm tired of hearing people complain about their lot in life. I'm sick of seeing people on television waiting for and demanding handouts. No one in this country is entitled to anything other than life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness guaranteed by the Declaration of Independence. That does not mean that you will be happy, it means that you have the right to make your own decisions and pursue happiness. Happiness is completely up to you. If you don't achieve it, it is your own fault and I don't want to listen to your complaints.

Life is all about choice. Adults are responsible for making choices every day of their lives and the choices that they make define their lives and those of their families. Where to live and where to work are examples of the choices that people make. When a person chooses to live on or near the Gulf of Mexico, they are also choosing to live with the inevitability of hurricanes and tropical storms. Every year tropical depressions develop; intensify into storms and then hurricanes. This has occurred every year throughout human history. It is inevitable and unstoppable. It will happen every year. The weather cannot be controlled or regulated by the government, nor can it be predicted with certainty. If you live on the Gulf Coast, hurricanes are a fact of life that you have chosen to accept. What you have accepted by living there is the possibility of having your life dramatically impacted by the weather. It is up to you to understand the odds that you have accepted.

I have no sympathy for you adults whose lives have been impacted by hurricanes this season. I can spare some for your children and for those without the ability to make their own decisions, but for the rest of you; I don't care. If you were unprepared, it was your own fault. If you didn't think it could happen, you should have. Don't look to me to bail you out and replace what you have lost. Don't tax me to rebuild your homes and businesses, and don't expect the government to support you for the rest of your life. You played the odds and you lost. Accept it and get on with your life. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and start helping yourself. The choices that you made yesterday have put you where you are now and the choices that you make tomorrow will dictate your future. Stand up and take responsibility for your life. No one is ever going to help you as much as you can help yourself.
