Is Money My Motivation To Loosing Weight?
So it’s the start of another new year and we all know what that means. It’s resolution time. The most popular resolution of course, is to lose weight. Everyone I know has probably wanted to either lose some weight or get in shape at least one time in his or her life. For most of them, that has taken the form of a New Year’s resolution. I’m no exception. I decide to lose weight and get in shape seemingly every year. All across the country thousands, perhaps even millions of people have resolved to lose weight this year. Many will succeed, even more will fail, and a good number people have probably already strayed from their New Year’s diet.
I’m doing something a little different this year. While it’s true that I’ve resolved to lose weight, I’ve also added a little more incentive to the whole ordeal. Along with a fair-sized group my similarly overweight friends; I’ve entered a contest to lose weight. The plan is simple: pay the $20 entry fee and lose as much weight as you can in 8 weeks. Whoever loses the greatest percentage of their body-weight gets to reclaim their $20 along with everyone else’s. I’ve always wondered how motivating money can be and now it seems that I am about to find out.
The official weigh-in to kick off the competition will be tomorrow and we’ll have weekly updates after that for the next 2 months. Of course, the weigh-in caused a couple problems initially. There were a several people who wanted to participate, but didn’t want anyone to know how much they weigh. The solution we came up with was to add a multiplier to that person’s weight. So long as we multiply their weight and any subsequent losses by the same random mystery number, we can disguise their actual weight, but still document their percentage lost.
Well, that’s the plan for 2007. Just like many previous years, I’ve resolved to get in shape and lose some weight. Maybe this contest will make all the difference. I’ll keep you posted.

Abe takes the lead!! Abe's steady 4 pounds per week pace has finally paid off as he takes a sizeable lead after 3 weeks.
Joe changed his diet plan up for week 3. He decided to try cookies, cake, and no exercise. His 2.5 pound reversal bumped him all the way to 4th place.
In other news, it appears that Darrin has decided to try losing weight after all.
Name Initial weight 1/10 weight 1/17 weight 1/24 weight % Loss

We have a bit of a dilemma regarding the final weigh-in on 2/28. Joe will not be available to weigh that day. He will be at an offsite training class. I will not be available the day before due to an offsite class as well (Tosh is also in that class, but she weighs at home).
Anyway, the way I see it, we need to either extend the contest to Thursday March 1st, or shorten it to Monday February 26th. I suppose we could do other things as well, but those seemed like the 2 most practical options. What do you all think?
Super Bowl weekend wasn't good for most of us, although Darrin and Tosh didn't seem to be adversely affected. Joe's been spending his week eating cookies and pizza and was unable to weigh in today so we'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he hasn't gained anything.
Name Initial weight 1/10 weight 1/17 weight 1/24 weight 1/31 weight 2/07 weight % Loss
Joe 229 219 217.5 220 213.5 213.5 6.77%

Natasha 549.3 549.3 541.6 537.8 535.9 533.3 2.91%
Darrin 189.8 189 189 183.6 183.6 179.8 5.27%
Abe better watch out, everybody's gaining on him! Well, everybody except Joe.....
Name Initial weight 1/10 weight 1/17 weight 1/24 weight 1/31 weight 2/07 weight 2/14 weight % Loss
Joe 229 219 217.5 220 213.5 213.5 216 5.68%

Abe has done it! He is the biggest loser! He'll also be $100 wealthier when we get around to paying him.
