Mandatory Military Service

Would you like to make the streets safer? Would you like to instill a little bit of drive and ambition into today’s youth? Perhaps you’d just like them to have a healthy respect for what they already have and everything they have to look forward to. Or maybe you’d just like to see young people today act like adults and accept some responsibility for a change. If any of those things appeal to you, then here’s a solution that would solve all those problems and more:

Mandatory Military service for all people between the ages of 18 and 24 who aren’t enrolled full time in high school or college. You read it right, mandatory military service. Not only does that keep the young people off the street, it all but eliminates the need for the military to recruit anyone but commissioned officers.

Think about it. Instead of young adults roaming the streets, working two bit jobs, and trying to “find themselves”, they’re either attending college full time or they’re off living in a structured environment and providing a valuable service to this country. What’s even better, when the college student’s graduate usually around the age of 21 or 22, they’ll have to either continue with their education or join the military for a couple years. In any case, no one is really set loose into the general population until they are beyond the age of 24.

Most people over the age of 30 can reflect back on their life and recognize that they weren’t really fully grown up, responsible adults until their mid 20’s. Furthermore, they probably tell you that most of the stupid, dangerous, and illegal things they’ve done, they did before they turned 24.

Of course you’d still have college students doing stupid things and soldiers on leave are capable of causing all sorts of trouble, but overall I think you’d see a dramatic decrease in crimes and commotion caused by bored youth with nothing else to do. Plus the military will forcibly instill a sense of responsibility and an appreciation of consequences into their charges. By the time they got out, they’d be better equipped to be productive members of society.

Maybe this idea won’t solve all of the world’s problems, but it sure would make the streets a little more peaceful.

The House of Representatives I want my money back!

I have had about all I can stand with the politicians in this country. Today I heard on the news that the House of Representatives spent my tax dollars on their personal agenda. That’s right they spent valuable time and tax dollars for there personal agenda. The House is protesting the war on Iraq with a Symbolic vote to demand the president pull out. The keyword here is SYMBOLIC, they have spent a day and a weekend on the clock no less voting for something that has no value to anyone but themselves. The House of Representatives took the time to vote their conscience. Excuse me but they are supposed to be representing ME, not themselves.

If I want to protest the war I have to take time off of work, create a poster, and place it on a stick. Then I have to walk up and down some streets to get my opinion heard.

What has the House accomplished?

Instead of taking their weekend time to protest their opinion, they have elected to use MY Tax Dollars to vote on a symbolic protest. Why do I say it’s my tax dollars? Simply put, they got paid to vote symbolically. They took that precious time to vote their opinion. That time is supposed to be spent on issues that can enact or disallow something that affects “WE THE PEOPLE”. A symbolic vote does only one thing: it gets media attention and ensures they get paid for doing absolutely nothing for the people of America.

When the House of Representatives uses my time and tax dollars to vote their opinion, it leaves me with no other choice but to demand my money back.

I vote and pay taxes so give me my money back.

Is Money My Motivation To Loosing Weight?

So it’s the start of another new year and we all know what that means. It’s resolution time. The most popular resolution of course, is to lose weight. Everyone I know has probably wanted to either lose some weight or get in shape at least one time in his or her life. For most of them, that has taken the form of a New Year’s resolution. I’m no exception. I decide to lose weight and get in shape seemingly every year. All across the country thousands, perhaps even millions of people have resolved to lose weight this year. Many will succeed, even more will fail, and a good number people have probably already strayed from their New Year’s diet.

I’m doing something a little different this year. While it’s true that I’ve resolved to lose weight, I’ve also added a little more incentive to the whole ordeal. Along with a fair-sized group my similarly overweight friends; I’ve entered a contest to lose weight. The plan is simple: pay the $20 entry fee and lose as much weight as you can in 8 weeks. Whoever loses the greatest percentage of their body-weight gets to reclaim their $20 along with everyone else’s. I’ve always wondered how motivating money can be and now it seems that I am about to find out.

The official weigh-in to kick off the competition will be tomorrow and we’ll have weekly updates after that for the next 2 months. Of course, the weigh-in caused a couple problems initially. There were a several people who wanted to participate, but didn’t want anyone to know how much they weigh. The solution we came up with was to add a multiplier to that person’s weight. So long as we multiply their weight and any subsequent losses by the same random mystery number, we can disguise their actual weight, but still document their percentage lost.

Well, that’s the plan for 2007. Just like many previous years, I’ve resolved to get in shape and lose some weight. Maybe this contest will make all the difference. I’ll keep you posted.

With the Holidays coming up, I'm sure everyone will be doing a lot of baking. This is one of my favorite and easiest recipes to do.

Christmas Cookie Ingredients:

1 cup of water
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup of brown sugar
1 tsp lemon juice
4 large eggs
1 cup nuts
2 cups of dried fruit
1 bottle Jose Cuervo Tequilla

Sample the Cuervo to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the Cuervo again, to be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink.

Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point it's best to make sure the Cuervo is still OK - try another cup ... just in case.

Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick the frigging fruit up off the floor...

Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it lloose with a drewscriver.

Sample the Cuervo to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt, or something. Who giveshz a sheet.

Check the Jose Cuervo. Now crack the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table.

Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find.

Greash the oven.

Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl out, finish the Cose Juervo and make sure to put the stove in the dishwasher
